VPS means Virtual Private server or Virtual Dedicated Server. You get root access to the server. In Short VPS is efficient than shared server but ineffective than dedicated sever. If you are upgrading from shared server to the VPS then you are ultimately getting more resources & advantages compared to shared server. But if you are downgrading from dedicated server to VPS than you are loosing resources which you are enjoying in Dedicated server.
