 Web Hosting FAQ:
1. Does e-mail on the server count towards my allotted space?
Ans:

Yes. Any e-mail you have stored on the server counts as storage for your account. This is one reason we recommend not storing e-mail on the server. Once you download and read your mail, you should ensure that your e-mail client deletes the mail from the server.

In the configuration settings for your e-mail client, make sure that you do not have the option selected to "Leave mail on server" if you do not wish to store e-mail on the server.

2. What are autoresponders?
Ans:

Autoresponders automatically respond to incoming email. For example, if you plan on being out of the office on vacation, you can set up an autoresponder to an email message to everyone who emails you while you’re gone letting them know your out of the office vacationing and will respond when you return. Each account plan comes with unlimited autoresponders.

3. What is an MX record?
Ans:

X or Mail Exchanger record specifies where mail for a domain name should be delivered. The record must be an assigned domain name, which in turn points to an IP address. MX record can have more than one domain name and the order is decided by the preferences. For example:

X record for the domain MYSITES.COM points to MAIL.MYSITES.COM with preferences 10 (default value) and MAIL.MYWIDGETS.COM points to the IP address 203.199.83.202

If you decide to create an MX record for your domain name zone files, the email services provided in your the plan you purchased will no longer function. All email addressed with your domain name will be handled by the server you indicate in the MX record.

4. What is POP3?
Ans:

POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) is the most recent version of e-mail software. It is a client/server protocol in which e-mail is received and held for you by your Internet server. Periodically, you (or your client e-mail receiver) check your mailbox on the server and download mail. POP3 is built into the Netmanage suite of Internet products and one of the most popular e-mail products.
