Web Hosting FAQ:
1. What is a Domain Name Server (DNS) and how does it work?
Ans:
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed Internet directory service. DNS is used mostly to translate between domain names and IP addresses, and to control email delivery.
Most internet services rely on DNS to work.
If DNS fails or is too slow, web sites cannot be located and email delivery stalls. The DNS system consists of three components: DNS data (called resource records), servers (called name servers), and Internet protocols for fetching data from the servers.

3. How Do I Register a Domain Name?
Ans:
Registering a domain name is very easy.First you will have to make sure that the domain you want is available - using something called a WHOIS lookup at sites like Register.com or Whois Source you can make sure the domain you want is available for registration.
Afterwards, you simply need to visit a registration site such as DirectNIC or Register.com to purchase your domain name.

4. Do I have to change my domain if I get a new host?
Ans:
No. Provided that the domain is registered in your name (as it should be), you can simply update your namservers (from where you manage your domain names) to that of your new host.

5. What is Domain Parking?
Ans:
Domain parking lets you buy a domain and then have a 'coming soon' page on it. This is not needed - if a domain is not parked it will simply be iinaccessible to anyone.
Most domain registrars provide this by default.

6. What are subdomains?
Ans:
Consider subdomains as an extension of your domain. For example, your site is www.example.com. A subdomain would be test.example.com, and another would be webhosting.example.com.
Subdomains are usually treated as separate sites from the main domain site.
|
7. What is a "parked" domain name?
Ans:
Parked domains are aliases of other domains. For example, if you had the domain olddomain.com and parked it on your other domain – newdomain.com, all traffic going to olddomain.com would automatically be sent to newdomain.com.
|
8. What is a Virtual Domain?
Ans:
A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software.
With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address domain name (you@your-name.com).
