Types of Links in SEO terms
1. Hyperlink (Link ) : It’s the core concept/technology that allows the web to operate. A hyperlink connects a webpage to either another document (webpage or file), or a different part of the same document.
2. Internal links: (On-site links) Links on the site, pointing to other parts of the site.
3. Outbound links: Links on the site, pointing to other sites than the one the link is on.
4. Inbound links: Links on other sites, pointing to the site in question or to separate pages within the site.
5. Off-line links: Links to this or other sites printed on ie. business cards, advertising, product fact sheets, user guides, contracts, physical products, or legal documents etc.
6. Back Link : Backlinks are the incoming links to a website or web page. Also called inbound links or IBLs.
7. Reciprocal Link : A reciprocal link is where website [A] links to website [B], which in turn links to website [A].
8. Dead Link - A link to a URL that no longer exists.
9. Absolute link : An absolute link is created when the href value is a fully qualified URL, including: “http://domain-name ” . An absolute href value must be specified to create a link between pages on different websites
10. Relative link : A relative link can only be used when linking between locations within a website (under a single domain). A relative link is created when the destination href value is relative to the location of the current webpage or source anchor.
11. Deep-linking :Help to gauge the relevance of the link to current activity; provide a summary of the linked page’s content.Confirm that they have reached the right destination; use the title of the destination page as the link text. Deep-linking is linking directly to a sub-page of a site (rather than the homepage).
12. Root-relative link ( Root link ) : A root-relative link can only be used when linking locations within a website (under a single domain). A root-relative link is created when the href value is relative to the website root.
13. Link Farm : A set of web pages that have been built for the sole purpose of increasing the number of incoming links to a web site. This is done in order to increase link popularity and search engine rankings. These types of pages are penalized by almost all search engines.
