Nothing in recent history has transformed our daily lives as dramatically as the Internet. It has radically and permanently changed the way we inform ourselves, amuse ourselves, meet people, bank, shop, and stay in touch. And it is growing at unprecedented rates. A survey released earlier this month confirmed that there was 3.1 million increase in hostnames from October to November. Currently there are 190,655,992 web sites compared to 40 million sites in April 2003.

By the end of 2006, 70 million Americans got news online on a typical day, a sizable increase since 2002. Google- Highlights

The personal information of many Johnston County residents, such as Social Security and phone numbers, can be found on the Internet by using a popular search engine, and county officials want it to stop.

Today, Johnston County will seek a temporary restraining order against the Google company to remove links to the site listing the sensitive material.

The county accidentally posted the information on the Web, after Bi-Tek, a Charlotte tax billing software company, mistakenly released the information instead of only releasing names and addresses as usual.

The posted material went unnoticed for about six weeks. Though county officials removed the information as soon as they were notified of the mistake, bits and pieces can still be found over the Internet by using Google, which retains information, the News & Observer reported. However, Google has told the county it must fill out a form and wait five days for the information to be removed.

I believe 5 days is a long time to fix this issue it is a matter of personal information which has to be taken care of immediately though google is one of the top most site hope all the infromation is removed soon as possible.

ICANN Releases Beta TLD Verification Tool

Uncategorized No Comments »

Developed in response to problems reported by gTLD registries and end-users of the non-acceptance of some existing TLDs.

ICANN, yesterday announced the release of its beta version Top-Level Domain Verification Tool.

According to the company, this verification tool has been developed in response to problems reported by gTLD registries and end-users of the non-acceptance of some existing TLDs. These problems occur in some current applications because they do not recognize any TLD of more than three characters or they rely on legacy information where only com/net/org and a handful of ccTLDs are recognized as valid.

Applications relying on such erroneous TLD criteria result in an inconsistent experience for users, detracting from the benefits of a single, global interoperable DNS. This TLD verification tool will provide a means for application developers and providers to incorporate current root-zone data into their applications.

This code has been designed to query root servers, capture a list of all valid TLDs and then store locally the results of the query. The tool is being released as a library created in both Java and C++. In addition to Java and C++ programs, this library can be called from programs written in other common languages such as Perl, PHP and Python.
