Obstacles Between Adoption of Cloud Hosting

Obstacles Between Adoption of Cloud Hosting

Migration to the cloud is an iterative process whose starting point is virtualization. By bringing together the information assets of the company around a single resource, virtualization is a crucial first step in designing a cloud infrastructure. At BODHost, we believe that any company, regardless of its size, can use virtualization as a foundation to develop a cloud infrastructure that meets its specific needs and to build their own cloud.

What are the barriers to adoption of cloud?

A recent study proves, data security concerns are the cause of problem about the adoption of public cloud computing.

In my opinion, if you accelerate the success of cloud computing and adjust your mentality, then you will realize the adoption of the cloud hosting is a true alternative model to run your online portal or website. I am sure the cloud will take place once the obstacles are overcome by technology and internal business. However, the reports indicate that most of the doubts in cloud technology have already been moved away, but fewer and very fewer companies are looking forward to think positive about the performance and availability of the cloud infrastructure. So if your company is still on the negative side about this platform, then I say the brakes are inside the company growth.

According to my experience, the first internal barrier is negative approach towards the cloud platform. Second aspect is security concern, in fact, customers are still not comfortable with the idea to migrate critical applications in the “clouds”. They are particularly reluctant to migrate information to third-party service provider and fear their data falling into the wrong hands.

However, if security considered from the start, the infrastructure in hosting place will then have essentially built-in features for protection against any kind of malicious attacks and for various technical reasons, it would be a more secured infrastructure than physical servers. Indeed, the entire infrastructure can be monitored via the hyper visor (or virtual machine) and with operating intrusion detection and virus scanning at this level, the environment will benefit from reduced physical costs and more effective for protection and constant performance over the entire virtual infrastructure of the company. This supports the principle that the developed virtual infrastructure would be more secure than the physical infrastructure it replaces.

I believe the hybrid cloud is the best of both worlds, but the journey begins with the virtualization of the internal IT resources. By virtualizing its IT infrastructure, it is possible to build its own internal private cloud and with the assistance of service provider it is possible to develop its resources at will in the cloud “hybrid”. The crucial advantage is that it is always possible to move data, applications and infrastructure in its private cloud if necessary, while continuing to use the additional resources offered by the public cloud as needed. This approach combines the benefits of public cloud in terms of agility and cost with the requirements of security, control and respect for quality of service businesses.

Ultimately, companies must change their view for IT resource implementation. Changing attitudes is as important as technology deployment and for this it is first necessary that policy makers understand all the implications and benefits of migrating to the cloud. Recently, a study by VMware has shown that only a few percentage of the different web hosting companies managers were aware that it is possible to reduce hardware costs for the cloud architecture. Beyond the capacity of the cloud to reduce costs, a few decision makers have grasped that cloud can increase their business agility by accelerating the deployment of new services and applications. In addition, only a few decision makers have realized that one of the key benefits of cloud computing is the ability to provide a flexible and resilient infrastructure conductive to business growth.

Although the technological barriers are progressively removed, it is only a first step in the journey. Attitudes among business enterprises must evolve and this evolution should better understand that virtualization platform is an essential part of the business foundation, resulting in many benefits and opportunities brought about for the business.
